Need a Top Photojournalism Workshop? Try Thailand

The photography world is a complex jungle of genres, galleries, awards, and workshops.  The amount of information that we sift through can be overwhelming, and yet sometimes we come across something that seems so interesting, we just have to show it around.  Foundry Photoworkshops offers a photojournalism course this July 29-August 4, 2012.  Some of the top photojournalists around will be teaching in Thailand such as Ron Haviv, Ashley Gilbertson, James Whitlow Delano, and many more.

The year 2012 marks the five-year anniversary of Foundry Photojournalism Workshop, an annual photo workshop held in diverse international locations that brings the best photojournalists together to teach visual storytelling.

Created to provide training, education, and networking to emerging photographers and students who normally would not be able to afford workshops, Foundry Photojournalism Workshop (FPW) is a grassroots workshop series held in inspiring and photographically challenging global locations.  From its inception in 2008, Foundry has brought its workshops to Mexico City, Manali (India), Istanbul, Buenos Aires, and this year Foundry will be in beautiful Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The goal of FPW is to help the individual, the passionate student and emerging photojournalist, to hone your skills, to have a chance to work with some of the world’s best shooters in the field on real reportage projects, to create multimedia, to see some of the best work being done today, to collaborate, make contact, plan future projects, develop your own vision, and leave the workshop energized, exhausted, and more committed than ever to concerned photography, storytelling, and to documenting our world through the lens.

The week will be packed; you can expect small and unique classes with world-famous instructors, a special multimedia creation course, extensive fieldwork shooting stories, one-on-one portfolio reviews, nightly slideshows by our instructors, panel discussions, working dinners, and a final night’s projection of the best student and instructor work from the workshop.

All the instructors at FPW are donating their time and talents; Foundry Photojournalism Workshops simply covers their travel and lodging costs. There is a great  lineup of amazing instructors this year: Ron Haviv, Michael Robinson Chavez, Tewfic El-Sawy, Henrik Kastenskov, Maggie Steber, Jared Moossy, Andrea Bruce, Adriana Zehbrauskas, Paula Bronstein, Walter Astrada, Neal Jackson, Alison Morley, David Storey, Agnes Dherbeys, Ashley Gilbertson, Suthep Kritsanavarin, and James Whitlow Delano.

Foundry offers a top-quality workshop at a price that students and those from developing nations can afford. General registration is $975. Local registration is $475. (Reduced registration fee is for local photographers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Philippines, Bhutan, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia.)  Although all of the scholarships have already been awarded, there are still group discounts when groups of 10 or more people sign up.

Space is still available.
