Here at pictureline, we are raving fans of Canon's new cinema line, and our resident video expert Arrius is giving you an in-depth look at their three cine prime lenses: the Canon EF CN-E 24mm T1.5 L F, Canon EF CN-E 50mm T1.3 L F, and Canon EF CN-E 85mm T1.3 L F.
The Canon CN-E24mm T1.5L F lens
The CN-E24mm T1.5L F lens offers a potent combination of exceptional 4K (4096x2160 pixels) optical performance with widespread compatibility with cameras – from industry-standard Super 35mm-equivalent cameras to 35mm full-frame, APS-H and APS-C sensor size models.
The 4K optical ability, the EF mount and the widespread camera compatibility will appeal to a wide spectrum of demanding professional filmmakers – from broadcast professionals to movie directors, directors of photography to documentary makers, and commercial makers to creative industry professionals.
The CN-E24mm T1.5L F supports standard manual and electronic industry accessories and matte boxes, and has a unified front lens diameter and uniform gear positions, thus eliminating the need for adjustments when switching lenses.
The Canon CN-E50mm T1.3L F lens
The CN-E50mm T1.3L F lens offers a compact, consistent lens design and proven Canon lens elements for performance and reliability in professional shooting environments.
Intended for the working professional, the EF Cinema Prime CN-E50mm T1.3 L F lens has markings on angled surfaces on both sides of the barrel, making it easy to read focus and aperture settings from behind or from either side of the camera. Focus markings can even be switched from standard labeling to metric. The control rings are engineered to maintain the proper amount of resistance with consistent operating torque.
Designed to fulfill contemporary 4K production standards, it features a full-frame imaging circle in a lightweight, compact design-this phenomenal lens is also perfect for any number of applications. It also features an 11-blade aperture diaphragm for beautiful background blur and innovative glass construction that counteracts barrel expansion and contraction to avoid temperature induced marking discrepancies.
The Canon CN-E85mm T1.3L F lens
The CN-E85mm T1.3L F lens opens up widespread lens compatibility options for professional filmmakers who wish to embrace Canon’s long-established, and wide-ranging, EF lens mount system that was originally introduced for EOS SLRs in 1987.
The lens delivers exceptional 4K (4096x2160 pixels, compared to the 1920x1080 pixel count of Full HD), optical performance and offers compatibility with Super 35mm-equivalent cameras, full-frame, APS-C and APS-H cameras. Employing anomalous dispersion glass that's effective in eliminating chromatic aberration, plus large-diameter aspherical lenses, the lens achieves high-resolution imaging from the centre of the frame to the outer edges.
The CN-E85mm T1.3L F lens weighs 1.3kg and offers a sturdy build that’s user-friendly for demanding productions. It features focus and iris markings that are engraved on angled surfaces for improved readability from behind the camera.
