Nikon 1 Announced! Nikon goes mirrorless
Nikon Inc. today announced a revolutionary new digital imaging system built from the ground up to empower users with new ways to tell stories through photography, driven by imaginative next-generation technology. The iconic new Nikon 1 system is designed to become one with the user and their lifestyle, providing a unique form of expression with amazing image quality, speed and portability.
The two cameras in the lineup are the Nikon J1 and its big brother, the Nikon V1. The J1 will feature a built-in pop up flash, while the V1 has a built in view-finder and will utilize an accessory port which will connect with an optional flash, GPS unit, and other accessories. Both cameras are constructed from a durable magnesium alloy, offer a 10.1 megapixel image sensor, the ability to shoot full HD 1080p video, and the new "1 mount" lens mount system - with a future adapter to allow the use of Nikon F-mount SLR lenses.
At Launch there will 4 NIKKOR lenses available
- 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 lens (kit lens)
- 10mm f/2.8 lens
- 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 lens
- 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6
Set to be released on October 20th of this year, the two cameras (both equipped with the 10-30mm kit lens) are set to be priced at $649.99 for the J1 and $899.99 for the V1.
