Can you share more about the moment you decided to transition from football to photography and how that shift has influenced your approach to your work?

My transition from playing football at the University of Utah to Photography was hard at first. My goal was to go play in the NFL but due to a career ending concussion during my Sophomore year of college, I was told my doctors around the eighth month of my rehab, that I should medically retire from playing in risk of getting an even worse concussion. So during my rehab my brain was ignoring my left eye's information. The doctors asked what I liked to do for fun and I said Photography and they told me part of my rehab was to go shoot photos to help work my eyes and the brain.

Long story short, I started shooting photos and instantly fell in love with it even more. I told myself that I didn't want to work a traditional 9-5 job and I decided that I was going to go all in on Commercial Photography. I decided I needed to put in the same effort as I did on the football field into my photography in order to make a career out of it. I ended up medically retiring from the game and felt like I still owed The University of Utah something for continuing to honor my full ride scholarship. So I was able to help out in their social media department and learn from some of the best. They really helped jumpstart my career.

You've worked with some impressive brands like POLARIS RAZOR, FORD, and TRAEGER GRILLS. What has been your most memorable project to date, and why?

I would have to say my most memorable moment would be Polaris Razor and FORD as a close second. Polaris was my first gig where Griffin Conway, Owner of Vision Creative Co. took a chance on me and hired me on the set as the Lead Photographer. It was a huge responsibility and we ended up crushing the project!

How does your work differ between Salt Lake City, Utah, and San Clemente, California? Do these locations influence your photography style or subject matter?

The work is pretty similar between Salt Lake City, Utah as well as San Clemente, California. I have some amazing friends and family in both states that I use as talent and they absolutely crush it every time. I would say the only difference between the two locations would be the scenery. In San Clemente, we have a lot of beaches nearby and some rolling hills to film and use as locations, where as Utah has a huge variety of terrain that we can use. The only downside is the Wintertime in Utah. Some of my favorite locations and under snow during that time. Both locations influence my work in similar ways I think. Working in the motorsports and automotive space the clients have more of a say in where they want the location to be. From clients I have worked with both like either location.

What advice would you give to someone looking to break into professional photography, especially those who might be making a significant career change like you did?

My advice to someone trying to get into the Commercial Photography space would be to go all in and don't look back. There are going to be hard times at the beginning and a lot of haters telling you that you cant make it as a photographer. Trust yourself and the process and take that gamble on yourself. I still have a ways to go but I know if I believe in myself and embrace the grind it will all work out. Work ethic and personality go a long way as well.

What are some of your future aspirations in the field of photography? Are there any specific projects or brands you dream of collaborating with in the future?

Some future aspirations I have for myself is to work along side more Automotive brands and to continue to build my personal brand to have a community of like minded people to help each other grow in the industry. Some specific brands I dream of collaborating with would be CANON. My first camera was the Canon T5I and now I am on the waitlist for the Canon R5 ii and I will stay a canon shooter till the day I die. I love everything about their cameras and for how much I put their cameras through the wringer they always come out on top ready for the next project.
