Northern Ireland: A Photographer's Haven

Ireland.

If you haven't been, it's probably on your list—photographer or not. And it's probably high on your list, too.

Ireland and Northern Ireland are known for their stunning cliffs and coasts, welcoming people, world-renowned pubs, and rainy, yet beautifully green countryside—all of which create more than ample opportunities for photography.

And today of all days, we thought it only appropriate to highlight photos from a truly talented and kind photography from this magical land.

David Cleland is a landscape and reportage photographer based in Belfast, Northern Ireland whose work is often recognized by the name FlixelPix. David has been featured on the pictureline blog several times, and if you haven’t checked out his work yet, you must—it’s incredible.

When asked what makes being a photographer in Northern Ireland so special, David responded:

Keeping the church theme, also in County Down is the stunning Hillsborough Parish church. This photo was taken just before Christmas with a 50mm lens that wouldn’t be my first lens of choice of this type of photography.

The jagged County Antrim coast has to be seen to be believed.  Lying alongside the famous Giant’s Causeway and the famous Bushmills Distillery, it is a popular location for holidaymakers. Shot with the panorama option on the Fujifilm X-PRO 1 camera.

Heading to Belfast itself, the famous St. George’s Market offers the best in arts and delicatessen eating. The market is a great place to visit on a Saturday morning to experience live music while buying freshly caught fish, or picked fruit.

Belfast nightlife is vibrant and busy. There is always something to enjoy and the Duke of York in Belfast (used in a number of films) is well worth a visit for the atmosphere and Guinness.  This image was shot with the Fujifilm X-100S.

Probably the most famous icon of the city of Belfast is the famous Harland & Wolff cranes. The cranes sit alongside the reputable Titanic Studios in which Game of Thrones, City of Ember, and many more have been filmed. Image shot on the Fujifilm X-E1.
