Canon announced a few days ago that the EOS-1DX Mark III is in the works. The new 1D X Mark III will have an enhanced autofocus system, along with improved still and video image quality. To give you a comparison, it will have 28x higher resolution pixels than the Mark II. It will support an all-new CMOS sensor and DIGIC processor that can capture 10-bit stills using the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File) file format. Compared to the typical JPEG format, HEIF provides a wider dynamic range and greater color representation. Not only that but it has 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 internal Canon Log video recording and it will have RAW video recording internally as well.
When talking about speed, it can capture 16fps continuous shooting when using an Optical Viewfinder and that includes AF tracking. When in Live View LCD, it can go up to 20fps with an electronic or mechanical shutter. When using the built-in Ethernet connection or the new optional wireless file transmitter (WFT-E9), users can transfer files twice as fast as the Mark II. The 1D X Mark III will come with dual CFexpress card slots that will enable more than five times the RAW burst depth of the Mark II.
Other than that, the Canon EOS-1 DX Mark III body feels a lot like its predecessor with the same magnesium alloy body and weather-sealing. One thing to mention is that now, when working in dark and dimly lit conditions, the 1D X Mark III provides illuminated buttons and built into the AF-ON button, the camera will come with a new control for selecting AF points. There are 525 AF areas when using automatic selection. The camera comes with the same LP-E19 battery but does promise to have increased battery life compared to the Mark II.
