Today, Canon announced a groundbreaking new cinema camera—the EOS C70. The C70 fuses that of the EOS cinema series with the EOS R mirrorless system. At first glance, it almost is similar in size to the 1DX Mark III but packed full of video-centric features. It comes with exceptional image quality boasting a Super 35mm Dual Gain Output (DGO) Sensor supporting 16+ stops of dynamic range. It also has a DIG!C DV7 Image Processor allowing incredible features like 4K 120p and Dual Pixel Autofocus.
Highly Adaptable
As the first Cinema EOS camera with a built-in RF-lens mount, this C70 comes readily accessible to all high-quality RF lenses. It also comes with a new EF to RF mount lens adapter—the 0.71X. This adapter helps convert the full frame range in EF lenses to a Super 35mm format. As of right now, it can support three EF lenses: the 16-35mm F2.8 L III, 24-70mm F2.8 L II and 24-105 F4 L II. More EF lenses will be available later down the line. It now also supports vertical 9x16 shooting and even comes with a 1/4" 20 thread built into the handle so you can mount it vertically on a tripod.
Professional Camera Usability
When it comes to the physical design of this camera, it features ND filter buttons on the side, a white balance button, focus button and two mini XLR ports just to name a few. Like the C200, you will be able to fully customize each button, they even come numbered for your connivence. The C70 comes with Dual SD card slots and for full functionality, V90 UHS-II memory cards are recommended.
Another exciting feature to point out is the fully-rotatable LCD screen with Direct Touch Control. Settings that were once accessible on the camera body now can be accessed right on the display screen. Users will be able to simply touch the screen to start/stop recording, set color temperature, display settings and more.
The C70 comes with a built-in ND filter system compatible with 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 stops, which can be extremely helpful when shooting in various lighting conditions. It also comes with Electronic Image Stabilization with Combination IS as well as Auto ISO and gain control.
Like briefly mentioned above, it shoots High Frame Rate; 4K 120P and 2K CROP 180P, perfect for slow motion. Plus, it has Canon Log 2, 3, PQ and HLG Recording.
The Canon Cinema C70 will be shipping this December and is now available for pre-order for $5,499—the same price currently as the previous C200.
