Although Panasonic's latest S1H will not have RAW capabilities straight out of the gate, Panasonic has officially announced that they have partnered with Atomos and developed a new firmware program that enables maximum 5.9K/29.97p, as well as C4K*3 /59.94p RAW video data over HDMI. Along with this firmware program, Apple ProRes RAW can be recorded on Atomos Ninja V. The firmware is scheduled to launch in early 2020.
Atomos CEO, Jeromy Young, stated, “We are very proud of continuing to develop new ground-breaking technology with a company of the caliber of Panasonic. We are both highly committed to the democratization of filmmaking for creators, and the ability to transmit RAW over HDMI from the S1H to a Ninja V is a major leap forward in this endeavor.”
Atomos is one of the leading brands of external monitor-recorders and its advancements in screen technology allow creators to accurately monitor RAW video in real-time even as it would be viewed at home or cinema. It also provides incredible color accuracy and representation of brightness from RAW signals. With the S1H and Atomos combined, it is the ultimate dream workflow for filmmakers.
To say that this new firmware is mind-blowing is an understatement. On top of what the S1H can already do, this new firmware is just icing on the cake and we believe it is going to make MASSIVE ripples in the cinematography industry.
