The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is the smallest and lightest EOS DSLR camera to date. As an entry-level camera, it’s great for a first-time SLR user, photo enthusiast, vlogger, or someone looking to capture unforgettable family moments. Designed with 4K video shooting capabilities, vari-angle LCD, Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF, 24.1 Megapixel (APS-C) CMOS sensor, DIGIC 8 Processor and built-in wi-fi, users can capture and share beautiful photos and videos wherever they go.
Canon SL3 Is the Lightest & Smallest Canon DSLR
Weighing less than a pound, it is the lightest and smallest DSLR camera on the market. It has a compact frame with a rounded grip, making it easy to travel with and fit comfortably in your hand.
24.1 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor & DIGIC 8 Image Processor
Featuring a 24.1MP CMOS (APS-C) sensor, and the new DIGIC 8 Image Processor, the Canon Rebel SL3 can quickly capture high-resolution 4K video and still images. While testing the camera we were able to produce great images no matter where we were shooting. Even in low light situations when high ISO settings are needed, we were able to create sharp, detailed images and video with minimal grain and noise.
4K Video & Movie Digital IS
One of the SL3’s most impressive features is that it can record 4K video UHD at 25/24p. Not only can it record regular 4K, but it can also shoot 4K time-lapse videos with its dedicated Time-lapse Movie mode. It also has new aperture-priority and shutter-priority video capture options. Although there is no built-in stabilization, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 has a 5-axis Digital Image Stabilization function that helps capture smooth movies even when there is camera shake.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Eye Detection AF
With Dual Pixel CMOS AF, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 uses its fast accurate autofocus to capture any moment instantly. The Dual Pixel system provides an impressive 3,975 selectable focus points across the whole screen in live view mode. As Canon’s first DSLR to feature Dual Pixel CMOS AF3 with Eye Detection AF in live view shooting, we were able to quickly focus and track the subjects eye providing for sharp head shots. It has an expansive focus area that covers approximately 88% horizontal and 100% vertical when working with compatible EF lenses. Although, while we were shooting the Canon EOS Rebel SL3, we noticed it struggled to autofocus on moving subjects during 4K video. Because of this, we recommend shooting in 1080p for better autofocusing performance.
Optical Viewfinder with a 9-point AF System
With entry-level photographers and videographers in mind, Canon included a simple but effective 9-point autofocus system for stills that some photographers might outgrow faster than they expected.
Vari-angle Touch Screen
The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 comes with a fully articulating Touch Screen LCD, allowing you to flip the screen out sideways and rotate it to face in any direction—making it easy to vlog or take selfies. The touch screen also makes it easy to zoom in and swipe through your images after you have taken them.
Easy Control & Understanding
To help users take full advantage of its advanced features, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 has been designed with different built-in assists modes. These include the Creative Assist, Feature Assistant, and Shooting Mode Guide. Creative Assist helps users find the right look to match the emotion or tone of the image they are looking for with effects such as contrast, brightness and saturation. Feature Assistant helps users create photos with ease by explaining and illustrating the camera’s shooting modes and their effects with sample photos of each mode. The Shooting Mode Guide is mode dial on the top of the camera that provides quick and easy access to the different shooting mode functions. Each mode has an explanation and example that helps users understand that specific style.
In terms of its size, it is amazing the number of features they have put in such a small camera. We were pleasantly surprised at the image quality and the overall performance of this entry-level camera. By using its multiple built-in assist and shooting modes, beginners will learn how different camera settings can affect an image, teaching them how to capture stunning photos and videos. At a retail price of only $599.99 for the body only and $749.99 for the body with an EF-S 18-55 F/4-5.6 IS STM lens, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is a bargain.
