Packed with easy-to-use features in a compact body, the Panasonic LUMIX G100 was designed with vloggers and content creators in mind, including an innovative audio system as well as a Video Selfie Mode. Read on to find out more about this clever little camera.
Because it’s all about you
The G100 makes sure the focus stays where it should—on you! This 20MP Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera features a Self Shot Mode that automatically engages when the LCD screen is flipped forward to face the user. Panasonic’s intelligent face-recognition and tracking makes sure you consistently stay in the shot while shooting. In this mode, while the exposure mode you set on the dial stays the same, a tab appears on the touchscreen displaying a menu of different settings, including Background Control, which allows you to select a “Defocused” or “Clear” background setting.
Other menu options include: Skin Smoothing, Effect Filters, Slimming Mode, Touch Shutter and Self Timer. While in Self Shot Mode, the G100 automatically applies a three-second self-timer to both stills and video so you can set up the perfect shot; however, the delay is adjustable to suit individual user preferences.
Sound as good as you look
The G100’s innovative audio system works in conjunction with the camera’s face detection technology. Three built-in microphones have a front, rear or surround pickup pattern, but the Tracking Mode automatically adjusts the mic response direction based on where it finds your face. Audio is picked up from the direction of the recognized face, and sound input from the remaining mics is reduced, helping to control background noise.
Increase control, increase quality
Available as an option in the G100 kit, the DMW-SHGR1 Tripod Grip helps keep your shot steady. Portable and easy to use, this small, lightweight hand grip incorporates a shutter button, record button and sleep button, allowing you to shoot while on-the-go. It can also be used as a tabletop tripod, and the camera’s position is easily adjusted via the integrated ball head.
Set up and start shooting in no time
To show users how easy the G100 is to work with, as well as the high-quality results it delivers, Panasonic had Brooke Eliason, of “Female Foodie” YouTube fame, shoot some of her posts using this innovative system:
But that’s not all!
The G100 may be simple to use, but it’s definitely not short on specs. A fully articulated 1.84M-dot LCD panel is bright enough to use outdoors in the sun, and battery life is reasonable. Shoot video up to 4K/30p and FHD up to 120p with quick/slow options. The mechanical shutter extends to 1/500 second, and the electronic shutter to 1/16,000 second.
The menus are well organized and also allow for plenty of customization. The G100 shoots a variety of aspect ratios, including 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5, 5:4 and 9:16, to support posting content to different online platforms. Available in a kit with a 12-32mm lens—as well as optional tripod grip—the G100 will impress any content creator.
