First Canon external microphone suited specially for Canon EOS digital cameras* to help enhance sound quality when shooting video.
The Directional Microphone DM-E1 is Canon’s first external microphone specially designed to work with the EOS line of digital cameras*. Featuring multiple directional controls, shock mount construction, a bundled Wind Screen and more, it can help strengthen the audio quality on videos of virtually any subject.
Shotgun and Stereo (90°/120°) directional controls can be easily adjusted using the directivity switch for use in a variety of shooting situations.
The Directional Microphone DM-E1 has three pickup settings to suit your shooting needs. Shotgun mode picks up sound in a narrow band in front of the camera, making it suitable for dialogue or single musical instruments. The 90° Stereo mode focuses on audio from a single subject primarily while adding in some additional adjacent sound on either side of the subject. This works well for a small acapella quartet, or a group of people talking at a party. The 120° Stereo mode gathers a far wider angle of sound, ideal for capturing audio from a large area like a backyard wedding reception or a large band playing on stage.
Compatible with select Canon EOS series digital cameras*.
The Directional Microphone DM-E1 is designed for seamless, smooth operation with select EOS series digital cameras* that have a movie mode and an external mic jack. This includes most DSLR models from professional to entry-level, along with the compact EOS M series digital cameras.
Included Wind Screen helps reduce peripheral sound from wind and other outside noise.
One of the greatest difficulties in recording audio outside is figuring how tiny gusts of wind can avoid sounding like a hurricane through the microphone. To help keep your audio focused on your subject, the Directional Microphone DM-E1 comes with a Wind Screen that effectively keeps wind noise to a minimum.
Shock mount construction helps reduce camera operation noise and lens driver sounds.
Microphones can pick up vibrations transmitted through their chassis. To help minimize this and catch only the sound you want, the Directional Microphone DM-E1 features a shock mount design that isolates the microphone from the noise and vibrations caused by camera and lens operation.
Frequency response of 50 Hz to 16 kHz.
The Directional Microphone DM-E1 features a frequency range of 50 Hz to 16 kHz, and is able to capture a wide variety of sounds for your creative work. If you’re recording music, this range can encompass the low notes on a bass guitar all the way up through the delicate plucks of a mandolin. It flourishes outdoors in nature as well, able to pick up the solid rumble of waves on the beach, or the high bird songs in a forest.
Built-in power supply of a single button-type lithium cell battery.
Instead of using your camera’s battery and potentially reducing your recording time, the Directional Microphone DM-E1 has a single, easily replaceable CR2032 button-type battery (included) for long-lasting use. When connected, the camera’s on/off switch also conveniently turns the microphone on and off, saving its battery from running down when you’re not using the camera.
Power check lamp allows the user to conveniently check the status of the life of the built-in battery.
Equipped with a power check lamp, the Directional Microphone DM-E1 allows you to easily check if you have enough battery life remaining for your next video.
