Thanks to the Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Digital Camera Body, stepping up to a full frame digital camera no longer means having to carry around a big, heavy camera. The EOS RP is the lightest and most compact full frame EOS camera to date, and includes a 26.2MP CMOS sensor, fast and accurate auto focus, UHD 4K video, and great performance in low light thanks to the new DIGIC 8 processor. The EOS RP has compatibility with all of Canon’s RF lenses, as well as EF & EF-S lenses through the use of an optional EF adapter. The EOS RP employs an interface very similar to many of the EOS DSLR cameras, so converting to mirrorless has never been easier. The familiar interface, compact size, comfortable grip, and feature-rich platform help make this the go-anywhere camera for documenting life—and the world.
Mirrorless cameras have brought a new level of excitement into the photo industry, and one of the biggest advantages is the ability to shrink down the camera size. Now, thanks to Canon’s design team, sensor size won't be sacrificed for camera size. The ROS RP is the lightest and smallest Canon full frame camera as of February 2019, weighing in at just under one pound (440g). A full frame camera has never been more compact or more convenient to carry.
Larger and Widely Adaptable Lens Mount
The RF mount on the EOS RP camera has a 54mm internal diameter—larger than any previous Canon body. This larger lens mount allows for a wider range of lens designs, allowing the optical engineers to turn lenses once thought impossible to make into reality. Thanks to the camera’s mirrorless design, the back of the lens sits a much shorter distance from the sensor—only 20mm—further allowing the engineers to improve optic designs, while allowing a nearly limitless range of lens adaptability. The result is better optic performance when used with the RF lenses, plus ultimate flexibility when using adapted lenses from other systems.
Revolutionary Autofocus System
The EOS RP camera has an all new, sophisticated AF system, with 4779 individual AF points. These points cover nearly the entire sensor, meaning nearly any point in the frame is selectable for autofocus. The EOS RP can also be configured to focus on specific areas, using an extended range or multiple points to track moving subjects, in addition to the revolutionary eye-auto focus now available. Selecting these points has never been easier, through either the four-way toggle on the back of the camera, or touch and drag with the touchscreen LCD.
UHD 4K Video Recording
Seeing that video is becoming increasingly intertwined with digital imaging, the EOS RP supports UHD 4K video recording at up to 23.98fps, as well as Full HD 1080p and HD 720p at up to 60fps. Internal recorded videos have a 4:2:0 sampling and 8-bit color, with the option of 4:2:2 8-bit if using an external recorder. The EOS RP has a stereo microphone allowing for external audio as well, making the RP a very well equipped video recorder.
Full of Features to Make Shooting Easier
The EOS RP is packed with features that maximize its abilities, from a creative assist mode which makes it simple to change camera settings and see the results in real time, to the feature assistant function, which provides simple text explanations and sample photos to illustrate the function. USB-C charging functionality, built-in Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth compatibility round out the camera, making it both easy and incredibly versatile for every level of shooter.
RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens
Included with the Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Digital Camera Body is the incredible Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens. This lens is a professional level, all-purpose lens that covers everything from moderate wide-angle landscape shots, to traditional portraits. Because it’s native to the RF mount, image quality and features of the camera are maximized. Working in low light isn’t a problem thanks to the constant f/4 aperture, and the integrated image stabilizer allows for handheld operation at lower shutter speeds without the need for a tripod. The integrated control ring also allows for custom control assignment, further allowing for configuration of the shooting experience.
