The Nikon HB-25 Lens Hood is compatible with the Nikon AF Zoom-NIKKOR 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF and AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lenses. As with other lens hoods, it is made to keep undesired side lighting from entering the lens. It does this by extending and shading the end of the lens. Furthermore, since the hood extends from the lens, it gives extra protection from accidental impact.
