Recap:
Our inaugural wildlife photography workshop turned out to be a total success! We spent four days tracking and photographing wildlife including grizzlies, moose, elk, a fox, and several birds. A major highlight that each attendee was able to photograph was seeing Grand Teton National Park's iconic 399 and her cub Spirit. Our group was fortunate enough to capture them on two separate occasions. The thrill of seeing her in the meadow with her cub and then crossing the road to walk up a hill still hasn't left us!
Thanks to Canon, Sony, and Nikon, our guests were able to utilize a selection of telephoto lenses from each brand allowing each person to experience the range, clarity, and thrill of capturing spectacular images of wildlife. We were able to capture a stunning young moose on the river bank during gorgeous evening light and later capture a cute fox hanging out above her den. Wildlife photography can be unpredictable, but luckily with our experienced guides, our group was at the right locations at the right time.
Each day started bright and early where our guests enjoyed a pre-dawn breakfast of muffins, croissants, yogurt, fruit, coffee and orange juice to fuel them for the morning shoot. In the midst of tracking wildlife, we were sure to stop at a few locations to capture iconic Teton landscape images. After the stunning sunrise and securing the morning shoot, we gathered together for a hearty breakfast over looking Jackson Lake and Mt Moran.
Fortunately for us, there was enough wildlife activity to keep us preoccupied during the middle of the day. Our schedule was flexible to the wildlife activity and group desire. Our group of guests were ready to keep searching when activity calmed and see the lush setting of Grand Teton National Park in Summer.
Each evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner before heading back into the park for some of the best evening light. Each moment we shared with the wildlife was truly inspiring. Our group of guests quickly became friends as we got to spend time getting to know one another and sharing the thrill of capturing truly amazing images.
It was an exceptional four days of stunning photography, spotting grizzlies, moose, elk and foxes, enjoying delicious meals, creating new friendships, and making memories that will last a lifetime. We invite you to join us in Grand Teton National Park this June 6-9th. The pristine landscape of Grand Teton National Park hosts a bounty of wildlife that offers ideal conditions for capturing animals such as moose, bison, elk, osprey, eagles, bears, and more! We will spend 4 days dedicated to pursuing and photographing wildlife in their natural habitat. You will learn what it takes to hone your skills to secure your best wildlife photography shots yet.

Itinerary:
Day 1 (June 6th): Our adventure begins at 2PM at our hotel, Cowboy Village in Jackson, WY where we'll gather for a comprehensive orientation session. We will cover daily logistics and dive into essential wildlife shooting techniques that will equip you with the skills you need to capture unforgettable moments of animals in their natural habitat. Following the session, we'll enjoy an early welcome dinner where we will get to know each other before embarking to our first shoot location where we'll capture wildlife in the transitional hues from sunset into the blue hour.
Day 2 (June 7th): Our first full day starts out by waking up pre-dawn to drive to our shooting locations to catch wildlife in the the early rays of morning light. After, we'll enjoy breakfast on location and eventually head back to Cowboy Village. In the early afternoon we'll have lunch together in the conference room at Cowboy Village where we will review photos with instructors. We cover a few basic editing techniques to bring out the color and details in the images. After an early dinner we will head out to our next location to capture more wildlife in the beautiful evening light. After evening light fades, we'll head back Cowboy Village to rest for our next early pre-dawn day.
Day 3 (June 8th): Today is another day of tracking and photographing wildlife. We will start at pre-dawn and drive to our next locations. After learning helpful techniques and reviewing yesterday's photos, we will implement your new knowledge and capture your best wildlife photography yet. Breakfast will be served on site ensuring you won't miss out on any photo opportunities. Lunch will be served at Cowboy Village during another afternoon review and edit session. We will enjoy our last dinner together in Jackson and depart to our sunset shoot location. Although we will survey for wildlife there will be plenty of opportunities to take advantage of landscape photography.
Day 4 (June 9th): On our final day, we will begin with another pre-dawn sunrise to capture our last moments of wildlife. Following the shoot we'll enjoy our last breakfast together on location before departing home.
Recommended Prerequisites: Basic Knowledge of your Camera, Intermediate photography skills
Given the dynamic nature of wildlife photography, the designated locations are subject to change. Our itinerary will be adjusted based on current wildlife activity, ensuring that we optimize opportunities for capturing compelling images.
What to Bring:
- Digital SLR or mirrorless camera body.
- Wide angle lens in the 16-35mm range or wider.
- Mid-range zoom lens in the range of 24-105mm.
- Long telephoto zoom lens in the 100-600mm range and super-telephoto lens.
- Tripod with Gimbal head preferred.
- Monopod.
- Binoculars.
- Spotting scope.
- Circular polarizers and ND filters may come in handy.
- Backpack to carry your camera gear.
- Extra batteries, memory cards, and cleaning supplies.
- Laptop for post-processing and review.
*If you need a lens to rent, you can rent it from us at rentals.shoppictureline.com. There will be a limited number of Canon RF 400mm F2.8 L IS USM lens, and Canon RF 600mm F4 L IS USM lenses on hand as loaner gear.
Personal Gear:
- Warm layers, warm hat, warm gloves (average pre-dawn and post sunset temperatures are in the low 40's)
- Sturdy footwear
- Headlamp
- Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Sun Hat.
- Water bottle.

Physical Expectations: Please note that it may be possible the group is required to hike in order to locate wildlife or compose an ideal photography setting. We are not planning any long or strenuous hikes however, we will do some walking on uneven terrain. Therefore, a minimum degree of fitness is required in order to be able to keep up with the group. You must be able to carry your own gear.
