We know you’re drooling over the new 70D and you’re probably pretty fascinated by the SL1’s small size, yet crazy good performance. So with Canon Day swiftly approaching here at pictureline, we invite you come on into the store and explore your favorite Canon products alongside us and Shawn Weishaar, our Regional Canon Representative.
On Tuesday, December 10th, Canon will be here from 9 am – 4:30 pm to allow you to test drive select lenses and more. The test drive runs from 10 am – 1 pm, while more specialized instruction will be given in two classes: a lens class from 10 – 11 am, and a flash class from 1 – 2 pm. In addition to the hands-on experience you’ll get, Canon is also offering some pretty fantastic deals for Canon Day and throughout December—if you purchase a 70D or higher model on Canon Day, you’ll get a free lift ticket to the resort of your choice! So while you’re waiting for those skis to get waxed, check out three of our favorite Canon products and why we love them.
1. Pixma Pro-100 Printer
As one of 2013’s best printers to hit the market, the Canon Pixma Pro-100 is an inkjet printer that produces gallery-worthy photos reasonably quick. The Pro-100 outputs prints at sizes up to 13 x 19 inches with an above average quality for an inkjet. Among Canon’s other printers, the Pro-100 is at the lower end of the price spectrum, but still manages to hold its own and was dubbed a 2013 "Hot One" winner by Professional Photographer magazine.
The Canon Pixma Pro-100 uses eight ink tanks that each hold 13 ml of ink and two paper trays. The rear tray is used for a variety of glossy photo papers and the manual slot is for thicker materials. The output quality is above that of most inkjet printers and while it’s mainly built to print photos, the Pro-100 can still crank out decent text and graphics.
Why We Love It: At 8.6 by 27.2 by 15.2 inches (HWD), it’s a small printer that packs a lot of punch and for a moderate cost. This inkjet printer can produce photos that are definitely worth hanging on your wall, in your studio, or even a gallery, and it can do it fairly fast.
Canon Day Deal: If you’re looking to buy the Pro-100, Canon Day is the day to do it. The printer is $199 after rebates, $99 after rebates if you purchase with paper or a Canon DSLR, or FREE after rebates if you purchase paper and a Canon DSLR. If you don’t purchase on Canon Day, there are still big savings on the Pro-100 throughout the end of the year.
2. Speedlite Flash Lineup
It used to be that all flash systems operated using infrared. These pulsating beams of light would travel in a direct line between the camera-based transmitter and flash-based receiver. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, there are just a few problems when it comes to using infrared flash systems—one of the biggest being the line of sight issue. Secondly, IR receivers often have trouble reading transmissions in bright daylight. Between finding the right aim, range, and lighting, infrared flash systems can be tricky. However, with the newer Canon radio flash systems, your range can be hundreds of feet and you no longer have to worry about lighting issues. While there are still downsides to using built-in radio, these flash systems put the aim and range issues to bed.
Why We Love It: With wireless two-way radio communication, you’re able to get the shot without messing around with lining up the transmitter and receiver, all while counting on the reliability of radio triggering.
Canon Day Deal: Four of Canon’s best speedlites are offered at a special price day of. The 600 EX-RT, 430EX ll, 270EX ll, and Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX have instant rebates that run until January 4th.
3. EOS Lenses
From ultra-wide zoom to telephoto, Canon offers a wide variety of high quality lenses within their EOS system. Two of our favorites happen to be the TS-E 24 mm f/3.5L ll Tilt-Shift that boasts diagonal angle of view at 84° on a full frame camera and an enhanced range of tilt movement of up to +/- 8.5°–making it perfect for landscape and architectural photography.
We’re also pretty fond of the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom lens. This Canon lens has long been one of the most renowned and loved lenses in the Canon EF line, and with fantastically sharp optical quality, it’s no surprise why. The new and improved version maintains all of the features that Canon users have grown to love while adding a next-generation Optical Image Stabilizer, which provides up to 4 stops of correction at all focal lengths. The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L is also moisture and dust-resistant making it a great lens to use in challenging environments.
Why We Love Them: Both these lenses, as with any Canon L-series, are recognizable because of the trademark red band around the lens barrel, while images taken with L-series lenses are recognizable for their superior detail and accurate color. From the high quality ultra or super low-dispersion glass that L-series lenses are constructed with to the non-rotating front elements and smooth autofocus, Canon L-series lenses don’t disappoint.
Canon Day Deal: In addition to the lens class on Canon Day, Canon has quite a few fantastic instant rebate offers on lenses AND PowerShot cameras that run until the first of January.
So we’ll see you Tuesday then? Come get your free lift ticket with purchase and enjoy Canon Day with us!
